A Free Weekend...and I wandered by accident into ...

Greetings Mates!
I have a long, free weekend. I did some grading (pooh!). Straightened the flat (Blah!--but the husband is arriving soon) and wandered around a bit.

First, I found myself in the midst of Gay Pride 2013 and of course I stayed and took some pictures. I had no idea this was going on this week--just wanted some exercise!

Lots of performances

Creative advertising

Looks Like NoLA...crazy crowded!

Met a few Sailors...I think that is a Marge Simpson wig!

And some Superheroes

I wrote in the bubble--but it didn't save...
Hey! Duff dude! Don't I look better than She-Rah?

Very festive
Bobbies around, in case things go off the rails.

Then I went down to Covent Gardens, where all the tourists tend to gravitate to on weekends. Lots of street performers today.

Audiences are captivated by this concept.

Yoda, floating

Creepier from the side.

Even girls made of metal need a drink of water

Went back to Liberty and Selfridges for more pictures. Selfridges opened in 1909. If you haven't seen the recent Mr. Selfridge on BBC America, he was an American.

Selfridges Food Halls...a present for myself.

The peony is from Charlotte,
Madison House's Resident Manager.

Black Forrest Gateau

A jelly bean Mr. Selfridges--no really, he is made up of all jelly beans

Denim is their theme for summer.
I would kill for that old rattan chair!

Liberty is such a different kind of department store. Known for its prints and fabrics, it has such an eclectic feel inside and has gifts you can't find just anywhere.

Has that Old World charm

Selfridges does not say this!
Sorry large dogs--lots of things to knock about I guess.

The top floor view of the ceiling.
Opened in 1875, Liberty, was voted the Top Department Store in Europe for the last two years!

Also Time Out!'s Number 1 of Top 100 Shops in London.

Small clip inside of Liberty

Well that's about it for my Saturday in London. With no students.

  1. F....! Fiddlesticks! I had written a comment but cyberspace took care of it. Let me try again.

I wonder what Darian would do in a department store. Aside from Petco he will never see the entrails of shopping haven. Brit dogs have it made.

Can I forward the blog link to Gwen's roommate? He would appreciate the Gay Pride Day a l'Europe. The advertising body was sweet to the eye. (I think I am getting a little desperate.)
